UAE HS code lookup

Find the UAE tariff code for a product, the duty rate and whether a permit is needed, by code or by describing the goods.

Updated weekly from the published tariff schedule. Duty rates are indicative; confirm with customs before filing.

How HS codes work in the UAE

Every product that crosses the UAE border is classified under a Harmonized System code. The first six digits are the same worldwide; the UAE adds digits of its own, so a code here runs to twelve. The code decides the duty rate, whether the goods need a permit, and which VAT treatment applies on import.

Duty

Most goods carry the common Gulf rate of 5% on the customs value. Some are duty-free, some carry a higher rate, and goods moving into a free zone have duty suspended until they leave it.

VAT on import

VAT is charged on import at the standard rate, on the customs value plus duty.

Permits

Certain headings need a permit from the responsible authority before customs will release them — the lookup shows which, and names the authority.

Getting it wrong

A wrong code means the wrong duty, a held shipment, or a declaration customs sends back. Searching by description and checking the heading’s wording is the quickest way to find the right one; the code goes on the declaration exactly as the tariff spells it.

Questions about UAE HS codes

How many digits does a UAE HS code have?

Twelve. The first six are the international heading; the rest are the UAE’s own subdivisions.

Is the duty rate here the one customs will charge?

It is the published rate for the heading and is indicative. Customs decides on the declaration, so confirm before filing.

Can I search by product name?

Yes. Type what the goods are and the lookup finds the headings whose wording matches.

Does the lookup cover Saudi Arabia and India?

Yes, each on its own page with that country’s tariff, digits and duty rates.

Put the code on the declaration, not in a spreadsheet

CargoSurge's customs module files the declaration with the code checked, tracks the duty and the permit, and reconciles the deposit.
