Multi-currency

Handle revenue, cost, and reporting across multiple currencies cleanly.

Forwarders bill in USD / EUR / local, pay carriers in USD / EUR / local, and report in a single home currency. The platform manages all three without data gymnastics.

Currencies on records

  • Customer — default billing currency. Override per quote / invoice allowed.
  • Vendor — default invoicing currency. Override per bill allowed.
  • Quote / invoice / bill — the currency of that document.
  • Tenant — the home currency for financial reporting.

FX rates

  • Rate provider — platform pulls daily rates from a configurable provider (ECB, OANDA, custom feed). Per tenant.
  • Rate date — the rate used on a transaction defaults to the transaction date. Manual override for edge cases.
  • Rate types — spot, budget, month-end. Budget used on forecasts; month-end used on reporting revaluation.

All stored rates are auditable in /app/admin/fx-rates.

Transaction posting

  • An invoice in EUR posts to AR in EUR (transaction currency) and in home currency (at today's rate).
  • A bill in USD posts to AP in USD and home currency.
  • A payment applies to the invoice at the payment-date rate. Difference between invoice-date home-currency and payment-date home-currency posts to FX gain / loss.

Reporting

All reports can be filtered by:

  • Transaction currency (see only EUR invoices).
  • Home currency (consolidated view).
  • Reporting currency (for groups with a parent-entity reporting currency different from tenant home).

The platform translates between them using configured rates.

Multi-home tenants

Some groups operate multiple tenants, each with different home currencies (USD tenant + EUR tenant). Group consolidation rolls both into a group reporting currency. Handled by the multi-entity setup.

Hedging

Hedges (forward contracts, swaps) aren't modelled natively. If you hedge material FX exposure, track hedges in a separate system and manually post the hedging P&L into the ledger.

Practical tips

  • Bill customers in their currency where possible — reduces their FX risk and your collection friction.
  • Mirror cost currency to revenue currency on large shipments — natural hedge.
  • Month-end revaluation catches the FX drift on open balances; see FX revaluation.
