Driver mobile app

Install, log in, accept trips, capture POD, signal SOS.

The Driver mobile app is how your road-freight drivers receive trips, update milestones, capture proof of delivery, and signal emergencies — without needing a desktop login.

Overview

  • iOS and Android, downloaded from the App Store / Play Store ("CargoSurge Driver").
  • Login is by driver code + PIN (issued by dispatch); no email needed.
  • Offline-first: trips, milestones, and POD photos sync when connectivity returns.
  • GPS runs in the background while a trip is active (battery-aware; pauses when at delivery point).
  • SOS button works even with no signal — sends an SMS fallback.

Step-by-step — installation

  1. Driver downloads "CargoSurge Driver" from their app store.
  2. Dispatch creates the driver record in Settings → Drivers → + New Driver with the driver's name, mobile, and assigned vehicle.
  3. The system issues a 6-digit driver code and a 4-digit PIN. Dispatch shares these via SMS or in person — never email.
  4. Driver opens the app, enters their code and PIN, then sets a personal PIN of their choice.
  5. App grants permissions: location (always), camera (for POD photos), notifications.
  6. The driver lands on a dashboard showing assigned trips for today.

Daily flow

  1. Trip assigned — driver gets a push notification.
  2. Accept — driver confirms acceptance, marking the trip dispatched.
  3. At pickup — driver taps Arrived at Pickup → uploads collection POD photo + customer signature.
  4. Loaded → marks trip loaded.
  5. In transit — GPS runs in background; live position visible to dispatch.
  6. At delivery — taps Arrived at Destination → captures delivery POD (signature + photo + optional note).
  7. Mark Delivered — closes the trip.

SOS

Big red button at the top of the dashboard, always visible. Tapping it:

  • Sends an immediate alert to dispatch with current GPS coordinates.
  • Logs the incident with severity "SOS - investigation required".
  • If offline, fallback SMS to a configured emergency number.

Dispatch sees SOS alerts in real-time on the road dispatch board.

Common pitfalls

Data captured per trip

  • GPS breadcrumbs (one point per ~30s while moving).
  • Pickup POD: timestamp, GPS, photo, signature, optional note.
  • Delivery POD: same.
  • Fuel events (if Teltonika integration is enabled).
  • Speed alerts (over-speed events).

All of this is visible on the trip's detail page in the web app and feeds into driver-performance reports.

Updating the app

Updates are pushed via the app stores. The platform announces breaking changes 14 days before requiring an update; auto-update should be enabled on driver phones.

Lost phone

Dispatch from web: Settings → Drivers → {driver} → Reset Login. Old install becomes unusable; driver re-enters credentials on the new phone.
