Driver mobile app

What drivers see on their phone — accepting trips, updating stops, capturing POD.

Drivers work from a mobile app (iOS + Android). Covers accepting trips, updating status stop-by-stop, and capturing POD.

App store download → sign in with the phone number associated with their driver record. One-time code via SMS; session persists on-device.

Each driver's app only shows their own trips, never other drivers'.

Trip list

Home screen shows today's trips + tomorrow's pre-released. Each trip card:

  • Trip number + date.
  • Start depot → end depot.
  • Number of stops.
  • Status (released / accepted / in-progress / done).

Tap to open a trip.

Accepting a trip

A released trip must be accepted by the driver. Acceptance timestamps back to the dispatch board so the dispatcher knows the driver has seen it. Declining requires a reason (sick, vehicle issue, not available).

Stop-by-stop workflow

Inside a trip:

  1. Start trip — marks trip in-progress. Telematics (if present) starts logging.
  2. Navigate to stop — deep-links into Google Maps or Apple Maps with the stop address.
  3. Arrive at stop — captures timestamp + GPS. Some tenants require a geofence check (must be within X metres of the stop).
  4. Load / Unload — cargo photos (optional or required, per tenant).
  5. Capture POD — signature from consignee (see POD) on delivery stops.
  6. Depart — timestamp + next stop navigation.

Documents

Each trip attaches to its documents: trip sheet, delivery notes, customs papers (if cross-border). Accessible offline once the driver opened them online.

Offline behaviour

The app operates offline: status updates, photos, signatures are queued and synced when connectivity returns. The dispatch board shows last-sync timestamp; stale > 30 min gets an amber flag.

Messages

Two-way chat between driver and dispatcher, per-trip. Replaces WhatsApp for operational comms.

End of day

After the last stop, End trip closes the trip. Driver submits fuel receipts, odometer, any issues. Closes out on the dispatch board as Completed.
